As you now know, I celebrate my 40th year of being a qualified accountant and member of CPA Australia this year, which is marked by a CPA Australia presentation ceremony on the 16th of May in Melbourne at Crown Palladium.
Accounting is a profession that began thousands of years. In fact, the earliest forms of accounting can be traced back to ancient civilisations such as the Mesopotamians, who used simple record-keeping methods to track their agricultural and commercial transactions around 4,000 years ago.
The ancient Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans also developed their own accounting methods to keep track of their financial transactions. In the Middle Ages, accounting became more sophisticated with the advent of double-entry bookkeeping, which was developed by Italian merchants in the 15th century.
